05 June 2009 CTC’s Cycle Champions project in Bradford is organising ‘Cycle Fest’ on Saturday 13 June 2009 from 11am to 3pm at Lister Park.
There will be wacky, adapted and ordinary bikes by Crank-It-Up; off-road displays and coaching by Adventure Development; adapted bikes provided by Bradford Disability Cycle Club; time trials and hill climbs by East Bradford and Keighley Cycle Clubs; and Dr Bike maintenance sessions run by BikeRight, Manchester. Plus Huddersfield and District CTC will be there too.
Viv Carnea, CTC’s Cycle Champions Officer for Bradford, said: “The idea behind the Cycle Fest is to offer a range of activities on bikes for those who are new to cycling or keen to improve their skills, so that in the future they can jump on a bike instead of into a car. My dream is to see people from all communities and of all ages, shapes and sizes out on a bike in Bradford.”
There will be lots of free giveaways at the Cycle Fest including: 80 cycle helmets for young children who take part in any of the activities and 60 cycle lights. The new Bradford cycle map will also be launched: it shows routes for cyclists – both on road and off-road – including those on the National Cycle Network.
‘Cycle Fest’ will help people who are keen to give cycling a go and want training and advice. There will be a picnic area, smoothie stalls and bike parking.
Throughout Bike Week, Monday 15 June to Friday 19 June, there will also be events at schools across Bradford, a Roller evening in Keighley on Friday 19 June and a daily bike breakfast in Bradford town centre with the Aire Valley/Pudsey Bike Buses.
Bradford’s Cycle Fest is organised by CTCCycle Champions Project, working with Bradford & Airedale Community Health Services, Bradford Council and Bradford Disability Cycling Club.
Viv Carnea, CTC’s Cycle Champions Officer, is also looking for people from across the Bradford district to volunteer to help others get on their bikes. You don’t even need to be a keen cyclist to be a Cycle Champion! Those interested should contact Viv Carnea on 01274 22 32 39, text 07717 66 36 97 or email viv.carnea@ctc.org.uk for more information.
