Discover Manchester’s centre and celebrate 75 years at the heart of walking

Manchester’s ‘Get Walking Keep Walking’ will be celebrating 75 years of Britain’s walking charity by hosting a short stroll to discover the heart of Manchester. Join us on this 75th birthday bimble and discover the softer side of Manchester’s centre, with little used pathways and scenic sights, showing that it is easier and more fun than you think to Get Walking and Keep Walking in Manchester.

The Ramblers BIG lottery funded ‘Get Walking Keep Walking’ helps people who are inactive to build walking into their everyday routines and runs walking programmes across the city to help people take those first steps out of their door.

 

So why not come along on this FREE anniversary stroll, departing from the steps of the iconic Central Library on Wednesday 24 February, discover the heart of Manchester and just how easy it is to Get Walking and Keep Walking.

 

A display documenting the roots of the Manchester Ramblers, from their involvement in the mass trespass of Kinder Scout in 1932, to their activities today; including helping a new generation to get out and experience the joys of walking through the Ramblers pioneering ‘Get Walking Keep Walking’ programme, is also on display at Manchester Central Library throughout February.

 

 

Journalists and photographers are invited to picture the walkers on the steps of Manchester Central Library holding aloft their red 75th anniversary balloons at 18:30 on Wednesday 24 February 2010 at Manchester Library, St Peter's Square, Manchester, M2 5PD.
