Free guided cycle rides in and around Swindon

CTC and Cycle Swindon are offering free guided leisurely paced cycle rides to the general public in and around Swindon.

The rides are completely free of charge and are open to all abilities as a chance to get out with the family, make new friends, or just relax and discover the joys of cycling.

All the routes ae easy to ride and are targeted at people of average fitness rather than racing cyclists.  Most rides will be completed within 2 hours, but this will depend on the ability of the whole group and short cuts are available. No one will be left behind and no one will be asked to go faster.  The only rule is to relax and enjoy the ride.

If you would like to brush up on your cycling skills then separate training can be given or if you haven’t got a bike then don’t worry, a number of bikes will be available for people to use on the rides. Our instructors will be more than happy to repair existing bikes or offer advice on purchasing new bikes or equipment.

As the rides take place in all weathers please bring appropriate clothing, a drink and a snack. Children under 16 years old must wear a cycle helmet and be accompanied by a responsible adult.  To ensure your safety and the safety of all the riders in the group please ensure your cycle is roadworthy.  Go to www.doitbycycle.com/maintenance/bikecheck for advice.

“We’ve had a fantastic response to the programme since it started. “ Explains Anna Cipullo, CTC Cycle Champions Officer for Swindon, “It’s great to see so many people new to cycling coming along and enjoying themselves no matter what level of fitness or what bike they use. With regular rides taking place throughout the year, several people are becoming regulars and bringing along new faces each time.”

The next ride is 18 April and meets at Coate Water Café at 1.30pm for a 7 mile ride to Chisleldon - Liddington and back. For more information please visit www.cycleswindon.org.uk
