Sheffield United FC to help kick off major city walks scheme

09.12.08 A 50-strong bevy of kids, new walkers and mystery football players, will take part in a mass exodus to Sheffield United Football Stadium, from points all over the city, to kick start the pioneering Ramblers' run ‘Get Walking’ urban walks scheme.

The Big Lottery funded city walking scheme will help over 2,000 Sheffielders walk their way to better physical and mental well-being over the next 4 years. For FREE.

Groups of walkers from Anns Grove School and other community groups will start out from various points in Sharrow. They will converge at SUFC stadium for a photo opportunity with representatives from the SUFC team.

Get Walking Keep Walking Sheffield organiser, Ben West, comments: “Most people living in Sheffield don’t get enough exercise.

“Get Walking Keep Walking aims to change people’s attitudes; walking is the easiest exercise to fit into everyday life. Almost everyone can do it, anywhere and at any time, for free. You don’t need special clothing, equipment or training and what’s better is that there are no expensive gym memberships to pay.”

He adds: “Sheffield is full of hidden gems such as all the urban parks and woodland areas which are made to be discovered on foot.”
