Time to get Moving!

Time to Change’s Get Moving week (3-11 October) is a week of physical activity events bringing people together to challenge mental health stigma and discrimination, and promote the link between physical activity and mental wellbeing.

During Get Moving week, nearly three hundred locally-organised events will be taking place around the country encouraging people to dance, walk, run and bounce their way to a healthier lifestyle and better mental health. Get Moving events will offer activities as diverse as conservation, yoga, football tournaments, country walks, dance workshops, and much more besides. Whether you are just beginning to increase the amount of physical activity you do or are looking to try something new and meet people, you can find an event that suits you.

Many of the Sustrans Active Travel projects have already arranged link up events with MIND and the Get Moving week including:

Active in Ashington are holding a led walk at Ashmore House on Monday 3rd October

Active Lives, Healthier People in Luton have been asked by MIND Luton to lead a walk on Dunstable Downs for Luton residents, and they will also be leading a ride at Marston Vale Forest Centre in Central Bedford in conjunction with MIND Bedford. The team will also have a promotional stand presence at a festival event taking place on 14th at the Hat Factory in Luton.

StreetTread in Southampton will be running bike hire / cycle rides in a gazebo on the Common for World Mental Health Day, as part of a bigger event on Saturday 10th October.

Stockton Active Travel will be offering a number of walking and cycling activities throughout Get Moving Week, including two bike rides on Monday 5th October and Friday 9th October and on World Mental Health Day (Saturday 10th October) they will be doing town trails-fun walks where you can find out about the history of central Stockton and the differences that people have made to Stockton both locally and the world at large.

It couldn’t be easier to begin a more active lifestyle than by attending a Get Moving event, meeting new people, and having fun. Support Time to Change to help fight the stigma of mental health, and Get Moving!
