British Cycling has 22,000 members and manages most competitive cycling in the UK, specifically the BMX, Cycle Speedway, Cyclo-Cross, Mountain Bike, Road and Track disciplines.
They are the body which provide licences for road-racers according to their excellence, enabling members to compete in races from fourth category right up to elite class.
They also work to increase the level of success in international competition and run the lottery-funded GB cycling teams in Road, Track, Mountain Bike Cross Country and Paralympics’ cycling, as well as supporting the GB team in non-Olympic disciplines.
Beyond their work in competitive cycling, British Cycling works to: broaden the participation in cycling sports and promote and protect cycling through effective governance.
They underpin cycling with programmes which focus upon facilities, major events, coaching, volunteers, club development and grass roots involvement to broaden the base of participation in leisure cycling in the UK, supporting the Government’s agenda relating to the physical activity levels of the nation.
