Walk England was launched on 18th June 2008 with the Minister for Health, Dawn Primarolo and the Minister for Transport, Rosie Winterton both present illustrating the level of cross-government support for the walking agenda and the aims of Walk England.
Walk England is a social enterprise that works in partnership with professionals across the country to create local opportunities for people to choose to walk, to walk more often, to walk to more places, and to feel safe while doing so.
Walk England launched its new website on the same day www.walkengland.org.uk , which acts as an ‘online gateway’ for walking information, by providing information for the individual about walking and expert advice and a networking facility for professionals whose remit encompasses walking through an online community.
It links all the sectors who have, or should have, walking at their heart: Transport, Health, Education, Recreation/Sport, Urban Design and Environment.
This 3 year website project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Department for Transport, and is the first step towards:
