Bike It
Slough

Claire Robinson works as a Bike It officer in 12 schools across Slough and South Bucks. Claire has been been busy with cycling incentive schemes, design competitions and visits from the 'Blendavenda' team, who have a clever bike-powered smoothie maker!
The Action Day with Aylesbury attracted eight schools, demonstrating how schools can link up to create new, cycle-focused events with meaningful outcomes. Summer events proved really popular, with 112 bikes arriving for Western House school's first Bike Breakfast, and 38 at Tilehouse's Dr Bike session - in a school of just 120. Even better was seeing the sheer number of bikes at the schools in the weeks following these events.
The highlight for Clare this year was the arrival of round-the-world cyclist Alistair Humphreys at Farnham Common Juniors. 80 children listened to him speak and afterwards were all talking about how brilliant and inspiring he was, repeating his gruesome tales of not washing for a month, his bogies freezing and eating boiled mice as he cycled around the world!
