CTC Cycle Champions
Rochdale
Karen Carter is the CTC Cycling Development Officer working with the Sustainability Team at Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.
Karen has a far-reaching remit to promote community based cycling across the Borough of Rochdale in close partnership with the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Primary Care Trust and Link4Life.
The project aims to promote cycling activities for all of the communities in Rochdale. Everybody is welcome to participate. it is Karen’s hope that she can contribute to the improved health and wellbeing of the community.
Cycling should be seen as a sustainable mode of transport, easing congestion, reducing costs, and helping to build toward a healthy and active lifestyle within the Borough.
The Rochdale Canal Festival and Rochdale Grand Prix have been two successful days for Karen. Activities run in partnership with British Waterways and the Waterways trust saw two weeks of action packed fun.
With the help of local volunteers, Karen led family cycle rides for people of all abilities and differing levels of experience; taster sessions for lifelong cycling.
